The cruelest month, for me. I am making a HUGE effort this year to be more joyous about the change of seasons. I am making an effort to be more intentional, each and every day, to CHOOSE joy. I wasn’t even aware that this was an actual CHOICE, years ago, but it truly is. “Take those thoughts captive” are great words to live by. And with that, I spent the last 5+ days in the basement. I’ve put off far too many things that overwhelmed me in the moment and decided to just dig in, finally. The basement is where all my “magic” happens. It’s where my vinyl/print/design creations come to life and where all the soaps are created. It is…a basement. Your basic, under the house foundation with unfinished walls and ceiling and a cement floor. A space I begrudgingly have always shared with a variety of “wildlife” which I won’t expound on at this time. Suffice to say, there is one less dead tiny, albeit adorable, rodent 🐭 in my area. (actually caught him in my Home Depot bucket, accidently, so I released him back into “the wild”, much to my hubs consternation). Again, another blog.
The basement. It is not airtight, a good thing, I’m told, but it’s also not moisture proof – a less than great thing when it comes to my past-times. It was once a kind of dark, army-green shade, then the kids painted it a sky blue of sorts when the model trains 🚂 took up the room, and now, it will be white. Kilz white, to be exact, but it will remain largely white after that dries/cures as it will reflect light better and help these old eyes to see better. At least that’s what I told myself. Also, it’s just going to LOOK better. A new beginning, if you will. Just like me. Amen. Now, soaps. Coffee soap, to be more specific. I haven’t peddled this lately nor have I marketed it well, I think, since it hasn’t been a big seller. Let me tell you what it’s great for. Sloughing. Exfoliating. Let’s rethink this particular bar of cleansing 🧼 and refer to it heretofore as “gardener’s soap”. Or, “mechanic’s soap”. Or, for me this week, “painter’s soap” 🎨. It is GREAT to remove extra grime from your skin, while still nourishing and moisturizing with NO harsh chemicals. #WINNING So, while It may not be the best choice for your everyday bath🛁 or shower usage, it most definitely has its place in the soap cabinet. Try it – or even gift it to someone you know will appreciate it. Now, back to that basement to finish purging and organizing. What a great use of time this week has been. 👍 😎
