Butters & oils

Here is a listing of the organic ingredients we are currently using.
Butters
Cocoa butter comes from cocoa beans. Manufacturers extract creamy cocoa butter from the beans by fermenting, drying, roasting, and then pressing them. They turn the remaining portion into cocoa powder. Research suggests that cocoa butter can improve the skin, and it may have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Also beneficial (to some) is that amazing aroma!

Mango butter is a fat that originates from mango seeds and exists in refined and unrefined forms. Mango butter is semi-solid and melts when it touches the skin. Like shea and cocoa butter, mango butter can nourish skin and hair and support overall skin health. When applied topically, mangos possess hydrating properties. It contains high concentrations of Vitamin C which has been shown to stimulate production of collagen which helps structure your skin and defy signs of aging. It is an effective moisturizer and the abundance of vitamins E and C may help protect your skin from environmental stressors including sunlight and pollution.

Shea butter comes from the shea tree, Butyrospermum parkii, also called Vitellaria paradoxa. Considered a sacred tree, the shea tree is native to Central Africa. It comes from the nuts found on the tree by removing the outer shell. The nuts are crushed by hand so that they can be slowly roasted into the butter. Once this has been done, the butter is kneaded by hand in a large basin of water to separate the oils, also known as the fatty acids. These fatty acids are what provides the restorative properties making it one of the best options for skin care and more. To get the final product, the shea butter is removed off of the top and cooled until it hardens.

Oils
(Sweet) Almond Oil produces a rich conditioning lather. High in Vitamins E, A and D as well as Oleic and Linoleic fatty acids, this oil is perfect for soothing dry, flaky and irritated skin. It is said to be beneficial for skin ailments like rashes, psoriasis and eczema.

Avocado oil comes from the pulp of the avocado. This natural oil is pressed from the pulp and can be used in place of other oils in your diet. In addition to vitamin E, avocado oil contains potassium, lecithin, and many other nutrients that can nourish and moisturize the skin.
The outermost layer of skin, known as the epidermis, easily absorbs these nutrients, which also help to form new skin. It moisturizes, nourishes, relieves inflammation (psoriasis and eczema), prevents and treats acne, accelerates wound healing, treats sunburn, and reduces signs of aging. A “wonder oil”.

Babassu oil absorbs quicker than many oils and doesn’t leave behind a greasy feeling. Babassu is a type of Palm tree called Attalea Speciosa with its extraction being by cold pressing the nuts on the tree. It’s an emollient promotes healing, helps prevent odor, is anti-inflammatory, combats free-radicals, (in case you care about the signs of aging) and thoroughly nourishes your skin. Never heard of it? Check it out!

Castor Oil, used in combination with coconut and palm kernel oil, imparts extra lather to soap. It adds moisturizing qualities and is easily absorbed by the skin.

Coconut oil is a highly saturated oil that is traditionally made by extracting the oil from raw coconuts or dried coconut kernels. It has earned a high standing in many peoples kitchens – and medicine cabinets – and rightfully so. It’s rich in medium-chain fatty acids, which are a form of saturated fat. In fact, these medium-chain fatty acids make up about 65% of its total composition. On the skin, it can kill harmful microorganisms, reduce inflammation (helping a plethora of conditions), help with wound healing and moisturize. It seems there is NOTHING that coconut oil can’t do – and check it out as a healthy cooking oil and kitchen ingredient. You won’t be disappointed at the versatility of this healthful oil.

Grapeseed oil is great for your skin due to its antioxidant properties. It helps to lock in moisture and keep skin fresh and supple. It is full of healthy fatty acids and is anti-inflammatory. It helps protect the skin from infections while stimulating the growth of new cells. It is known to speed healing and reduce swelling. It is an excellent moisturizer for hair also, decreasing dryness and frizziness and preventing hair loss.

Neem Oil is a natural substance extracted from the seeds of the neem tree (Azadirachta indica), an evergreen native to India. It contains several fatty acids and is often used to treat dandruff and dry scalp. It is also said to soften the skin and even act as a natural insect repellent. There is further evidence that is may act as an antimicrobial.

Olive Oil is hypoallergenic, and therefore much less likely to cause allergic reactions or irritate sensitive skin. Olive oil soap keeps your skin’s natural oils in balance while cleaning away any dirt and grime. It contains hefty doses of vitamin E and A, which are powerful free radical fighters, and also anti-inflammatory compounds that can help balance skin tone and texture.

Sunflower oil has also been used for centuries, medicinally and in skincare. It’s a great source of vitamin E, rich in nutrients and antioxidants, and is effective for combatting skincare issues like acne, inflammation, general redness and irritation of the skin

SPECIALTY OILS
Argon oil is derived from the kernels of the fruit of the argon tree. It is primarily comprised of fatty acids and a variety of phenolic compounds. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, is rich in vitamin E, and helps to reduce inflammation. It is the “golden elixir” of the beauty industry and has been used for centuries for its numerous benefits to skin, hair and health.

Jojoba oil is derived from the jojoba shrub which is native to the southern areas of California and Arizona, as well as Northwestern Mexico. It is actually a wax, not an oil – with a higher viscosity than most other oils. It is a useful moisturizing compound and can be used for the treatment of psoriasis and eczema where many have a sensitivity to other commercially produced products.

Magnesium oil is made from a mixture of magnesium chloride flakes and water. When these two substances are combined, the resulting liquid has an oily feel, but isn’t technically an oil. Magnesium chloride is an easy-to-absorb form of magnesium that may be able to raise levels of this nutrient within the body when applied topically to the skin. It has been indicated that transdermal application (especially on the arms, legs and feet) can reduce pain and muscle aches significantly,

Pomegranate Seed Oil is an oil extract that is cold pressed from the fruit of the pomegranate.  Its benefits include soothing skin inflammation, strengthen hair, stop dandruff and stimulate circulation. It is popular for people suffering from premature aging (wrinkles), acne, psoriasis and chronic inflammation, among many other things. It can help rebalance the oil levels on the skin.

Rosehip oil comes from the fruit and seeds of the wild rose bush. The oil is made by pressing rosehips, the rose bush’s bright orange fruit. It is believed to have originated as far back as ancient Egypt in treating various skin conditions. It helps to heal, smooth and protect the skin. Full of vitamin C, it acts as an antioxidant and protects against skin damage and disease. The carotenoids also help to keep skin fresh by regenerating new cell growth and the vitamin F helps to trap moisture and protect against further damage. Truly a natural wonder.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that can help fight free radicals. It is also an anti-inflammatory. The body stores it in the skin, in both the outer and deeper dermis layers. It moisturizes, fights UV related skin damage, helps heal wounds faster, and can help fade scars.
